Robert E. Wright Vietnam War albums, early 1970s
Scope and Contents
Two photo albums belonging to US infantryman Robert E. Wright. The album covers are printed with "Memory of South Viet-Nam." Tucked inside one album were three loose photographs, a letter from Wright's parents, three empty envelopes from Vietnamese people addressed to Wright at "Receiving-Branch," an anniversary card, and a joke about "what the lower ranks think of the brass."
The albums depict life at Da Nang Air Base US Army Depot Troop Command, with photos of soldiers moving crates, military aircraft and vehicles, soldiers relaxing, and Vietnamese women dancing while a band plays behind them. Many photos show Vietnamese women working on base. One album includes inscriptions in the front and back covers from other Black soldiers addressed to "Bro. Wright" and "Bro. Bob" wishing him a fond farewell at the end of their service, telling him that he's been "just like a true brother" and expressing Black solidarity.
