Tom Flannery cartoons collection

Thomas F. Flannery was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania in 1919. In 1957, he moved to Baltimore and became the first editorial cartoonist for The Evening Sun in 1957. Topics include: Baltimore and Maryland, sports and personages, national issues and world affairs in the late 1950s through the 1960s, including the Kennedy presidency, the war in Vietnam, and the Cold War.

John Mawe (1764-1829) was a British mineralogist who became known for his practical approach to the discipline. The collection includes an engraved paper trade card for "J. Mawe, Free Museum, Matlock. Mineral and Shells, Amethystine fluor and Black Marble ornaments, elegantly engraved or plain, chimney pieces etc." The trade card dates to the early 1800s, likely 1800.

Abstract The formation of the Tudor and Stuart Club was initiated by Sir William Osler and his wife, Lady Grace Osler. Their intention to provide an endowment for these activities was expressed in a letter to Johns Hopkins University President Frank J. Goodnow, dated October 30, 1918. Six die-cut vanes; heavy card stock, embossed and printed by chromolithography in color and metallic inks; vanes interwoven with a cream silk ribbon; a brass grommet pivots at tail. Bright gilt; sharp die-cut edges; very good.
