Erna Magnus papers

Abstract

Erna Magnus was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1896, and was an author and educator in both Germany and the United States. The collection consists of two items: a typescript manuscript of Magnus's study, "Gainfully Employed Women in Chicago," (1943) and a travel diary written in German describing a trip to Germany, July 15-August 28, 1974.

Ernest Bueding collection of Albert Schweitzer letters

Abstract

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was an Alsatian musician, philosopher, physician, missionary, and author. Ernest Bueding was a parasite biochemist and pharmacologist who shared Schweitzer's interest in medicine and music. The collection consists of original manuscript letters of Albert Schweitzer, correspondence of Bueding concerning Schweitzer's work, printed material about Schweitzer, and original and copy photographs of Schweitzer.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of research and/or lecture notes in Feise's handwriting concerning approximately 300 major German literary figures of the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The notes are filed alphabetically by author, and for most of them Feise provides biographical details and and analysis of the works of each author. Abstract Estelle Anna Blanche Robinson Lewis (1824-1880) was an American poet and dramatist. Lewis was born near Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of John Robinson, a wealthy planter from Cuba of English and Spanish descent. Her best dramatic work was Sappho of Lesbos, a tragedy (London, 1868). She permanently moved to England in 1865, where her last work was a series of sonnets in defence of Edgar Allan Poe. This collection consists of an original color lithograph entitled “Les Amazones de la Seine,” created and signed by Eugéne Morsabeau Rosambeau in 1870. The print depicts a group of a dozen Prussian soldiers brought to surrender by members of the “Amazones de la Seine,” a French female military faction during the Siege of Paris (1870-1871).

Evelina Martini was a violinist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for 27 years. The papers also include documents related to the estate of Evelina Martini's husband, Ted Martini, and the sale of Ted's Music store after his death.
