Abstract

Elisabeth Gilman was born in New Haven, Connecticut, December 25, 1867. She was the younger daughter of Daniel Coit and Mary (Ketcham) Gilman. Her father was a college professor and the first president of The Johns Hopkins University. The papers consist of correspondence, speeches, writings, diaries, newspaper clippings, printed material, memorabilia, and photographs.

Elizabeth Daum diary

Abstract

This collection consists of the diary of Elizabeth Daum, which provides an account of her trip to Europe by ocean liner, July to October, 1926. Elizabeth Daum resided in Scranton, PA in 1926. Her travel diary indicates she was an unmarried, young adult who made a trans-Atlantic crossing to Europe in 1926. Other biographical information of Elizabeth Daum has not been found.

Elizabeth Ellen Starr correspondence

Abstract

Elizabeth Ellen Starr (1859–1950) attended the Peabody Conservatory and organized support for classical music institutions in Baltimore, including a campaign in 1920 to keep Baltimore's Lyric Theatre from being demolished. Many of the letters in the Starr correspondence collection relate to her efforts to support local music institutions such as the Lyric Theatre and coordinate appearances by the Philadelphia Orchestra and other ensembles visiting Baltimore between 1918 and 1945.

Elizabeth Hoops notebook

Abstract

The collection consists of a notebook titled by the owner, “Elizabeth Hoops Cyphring Book 1814.” Kept by a schoolgirl, the notebook contains math problems on the first ten pages. In 1819, the notebook was reused for song lyrics. The notebook contains a transcription of the song, “The Battle of Baltimore,” which commemorates the battle on September 12-15, 1814 during the War of 1812.

Ella Shields collection

Ellen Bankes Friend handwritten recipe book

Abstract

Ellen Bankes Friend (born Ellen Pigeon) (1816-1883) was married to John Bankes Friend (1808-1881), a Director of the Globe Insurance Company, and a Governor of Christ's Hospital in England. This collection includes a handwritten recipe book and one loose leaf recipe, previously folded into the book, compiled by Ellen. The recipe book is dated February 14, 1840.

Abstract

The Ellicott-King papers (1804-1837) which form this collection consist of a notebook (1804-1826) of Eliza Ellicott, a notebook (1819-1851) of Tacy E. (Ellicott) King, and an autograph album (1835- 1837) of Thomas King. The Ellicott family of Howard County, Maryland settled in Maryland in 1772 on the Patapsco River about 10 miles west of Baltimore, where Ellicott City now stands.

Elliott Coleman papers

Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas in 1890 and died in 1969. he was the 34th President of the United States. The collection, 1948-1979, consists of nearly 180 holographic letters written by Dwight D. Eisenhower and recieved by his personal friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Slater, from November 1948 until March 1969. Letters and other materials from Mamie Eisenhower to the Slaters number 114 items and date from October 1950 to November 1979.

An anti-Dreyfus articulated caricature printed on thin cardboard, depicting a soldier in red pants and cap plunging the writer Émile Zola into a barrel of molasses bearing the word "Vidange", with a brad fastener used to move the soldier's arm (and thereby the figure of Zola) up and down into the barrel.
