C. (Charles) Morton Stewart (1829-1900) was a prominent businessman in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as President of the Board of Trustees at Johns Hopkins University. These papers include several speeches by Stewart and a scrapbook of condolences sent to the family of Stewart after his death in 1900. The collection spans circa 1890 to 1900.

Abstract Douglas Huntly Gordon, Jr. was born in Baltimore in 1903. During the 1930s, he served in the Maryland legislature. In 1938, he founded the Mount Vernon Improvement Association and spent much of the rest of his life fighting to retain the original architectural integrity of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Place. Elisabeth Gilman was born in New Haven, Connecticut, December 25, 1867. She was the younger daughter of Daniel Coit and Mary (Ketcham) Gilman. Her father was a college professor and the first president of The Johns Hopkins University.
