Abstract
Adolf Katzenellenbogen, internationally known art historian, was born in Germany in Frankfurt-am-Main on August 19, 1901. He was educated at the universities of Freiburg, Leipzig, Munich, Frankfurt and Giessen in 1924, and he received a doctor of philosophy degree in 1933 at the University of Hamburg. Douglas Huntly Gordon, Jr. was born in Baltimore in 1903. During the 1930s, he served in the Maryland legislature. In 1938, he founded the Mount Vernon Improvement Association and spent much of the rest of his life fighting to retain the original architectural integrity of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Place.
