Ellis D. Slater collection of Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower materials

Abstract

Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas in 1890 and died in 1969. he was the 34th President of the United States. The collection, 1948-1979, consists of nearly 180 holographic letters written by Dwight D. Eisenhower and recieved by his personal friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Slater, from November 1948 until March 1969. Letters and other materials from Mamie Eisenhower to the Slaters number 114 items and date from October 1950 to November 1979.

Scope and Contents This small collection gives a glimpse of the literary life of Baltimore in the late nineteenth century. Francese Turnbull was an author and patron of the arts. Frank Johnson Goodnow papers

Abstract

Frank Johnson Goodnow, Ph.D., LL.B. (January 18, 1859 – November 15, 1939), President of Johns Hopkins University, was an American educator and legal scholar, born in Brooklyn, New York. The collection consists of about 12,000 items and spans the years 1880 to 1940. The majority of the material is Goodnow's correspondence, but there are also lectures, addresses, writings and printed material.

Free Negro Education newspaper clippings

Abstract

The collection consists of 100 orignal newspaper clippings removed from newspapers, 1848-1905, largely dealing with public policy for the education of African-Americans after the period of Reconstruction. The bulk of the clippings discuss efforts to educate a population recently freed from slavery.

Kent D. Currie papers

Kent D. Currie was an expert of printing and typography who lived in Baltimore, Maryland. The bulk of the collection is formed by Currie's collection of type samples. It includes brochures from Europe, in particular Holland and United States, with a significant attention to Baltimorean type designers. Noteworthy is also Currie's correspondence. The papers span the 1920s to 1950s.
