19th Century autograph book

Scope and Contents
Laura's book includes hand written signatures, poems, verses, messages and drawings by the Jewish Community between 1875 - 1895. Among the contents are two original sheet music from Baltimore's composers John Schomann and John Linhard. The book also has signatures by Miss Jennie Putzel, a Baltimore choir singer, and Louis Lauer, who had imigrated to America from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. It also has a long poem written by Joseph Sigmund (born 1856) who was in the advertising business.

This album has 73 photographs taken 1899 - 1904, (most 14 x 20 cm/5.5 x 8 inches), which portray the British side of the Second Boer War in the colony of Natal. Many pictures are credited to photographers 'J.E.M photo' and 'B.W. Caney' (possibly Benjamin William Caney, 1842 - 1918, Durban's first jeweler and an enthusiastic amateur photographer). A manuscript album of crochet patterns, recipes, bits of prose, and a list of marriages and deaths compiled by Harriet Anna Winder of Burnham (near Maidenhead) in Dec. 1855. A small history of the founding of Burnham is also included. Neatly written on c62ff (including some blanks), and with one small crochet example loosely inserted. Overview
Elisabeth Gilman was born in New Haven, Connecticut, December 25, 1867. She was the younger daughter of Daniel Coit and Mary (Ketcham) Gilman. Her father was a college professor and the first president of The Johns Hopkins University. The papers consist of correspondence, speeches, writings, diaries, newspaper clippings, printed material, memorabilia, and photographs.

Overview
The Ellicott-King papers (1804-1837) which form this collection consist of a notebook (1804-1826) of Eliza Ellicott, a notebook (1819-1851) of Tacy E. (Ellicott) King, and an autograph album (1835- 1837) of Thomas King. The Ellicott family of Howard County, Maryland settled in Maryland in 1772 on the Patapsco River about 10 miles west of Baltimore, where Ellicott City now stands.

The book starts with a memo signed by John Eager Howard in 1810 with the story of his ancestors who came from England. The following pages contain his Family tree, with the names and birth/death dates of the Eager-Howard family from 1799-1895. It is unclear who continued to work on the book after Howard’s death in 1827. The content includes notes with peculiarities about the family’s history and an Index with the names of family members and corresponding pages.
