Sidney Clopton Lanier (1842-1881) was an American musician, poet and author. The collection spans the years 1838 to 1998, with the bulk dating from 1838 to 1972. Victor Lowe papers

Victor Lowe (born 1907) was a professor of philosophy at The Johns Hopkins University, and the biographer of mathematician and philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead. This collection of papers largely relates to Lowe's research into the life of Whitehead and consists mainly of research notes, correspondence, and articles about Whitehead collected by Lowe. Included also are some personal papers which Lowe re-filed with these research files.

William Churchill papers

Abstract William Churchill, philologist, ethnologist, and writer, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1859. He was appointed United States consul-general to Samoa (1896-1899) where he pursued his interest in philology and ethnology. Churchill also studied African languages and culture but less seriously than those of Polynesia. Abstract William H. McClain was born in Cleveland, OH in 1917 and died in 1994. McClain joined the Department of German at Johns Hopkins University in 1953 and retired in 1982, serving as Professor Emeritus until the end of his life.
