Abstract
This diary was started by Canby A. Alexander in January 1883, when he was 10 years old and living in Cecil County, Maryland. At 10, Alexander was no longer enrolled in school but instead was occupied with the family farm and the comings and goings of his extended family, neighbors and friends. The Alexanders may have been descendants of Robert Alexander, once a delegate to the Continental Congress, who later defected to the Royal Navy. His estate became the town of Elkton, Maryland. Eugene L. Weston is a retired medical surgeon living in Oro Valley, Arizona, who attended Johns Hopkins University as a student in the 1950s. It is likely that these materials resulted from Weston's personal project to create an official Hopkins blazer jacket. H.E. Crook of Baltimore, Maryland was a construction company, dealing primarily in heating and ventilation, that was in operation from the early 1920s to the mid-1940s, approximately. This collection includes three manuscript business ledgers, from 1924 to 1945, kept by the firm. The volumes are thick folios, bound in 3/4 calf over cloth, totaling 1,800 pages.
