Erna Magnus papers

Abstract

Erna Magnus was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1896, and was an author and educator in both Germany and the United States. The collection consists of two items: a typescript manuscript of Magnus's study, "Gainfully Employed Women in Chicago," (1943) and a travel diary written in German describing a trip to Germany, July 15-August 28, 1974.

Ernst Feise papers

Scope and Contents The collection consists of research and/or lecture notes in Feise's handwriting concerning approximately 300 major German literary figures of the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The notes are filed alphabetically by author, and for most of them Feise provides biographical details and and analysis of the works of each author. The papers have no dates with the exception of a few pages which are dated in the early 1940s, but Feise probably compiled the material between the mid-1930s and...

Francis Lieber was a publicist, educator, and political philosopher born in Berlin on March 18, 1800. The Lieber Papers span the years from 1829 to 1873 and include correspondence; interleaved copies of Lieber's books; a small number of original manuscripts; printed speeches, lectures, articles and poems; administrative materials, printed briefs and manuscript decisions for the United States and Mexican Claims Commission (1868-1872).

Henry Carrington Lancaster, a scholar and educator in the fields of French literature and history, was born in 1883 in Richmond, Virginia. The collection spans the years 1913-1954 and includes correspondence, a scrapbook, research notes outlining and analyzing the plays of 17th and 18th century French dramatists and the repertoire of the Comedie Francaise, drafts and typescripts, and galley proofs. A large part of the collection is in French.
