Abstract

Elliott Coleman founded the Department of Writing, Speech and Drama at Johns Hopkins University in September 1946, the predecessor to The Writing Seminars. The collection consist of correspondence, manuscript poems, printed materials, and photographs. It spans the years 1932 to 1980 with the bulk of the material from 1978-1979.

Scope and Contents The collection of author and English professor, William Hand Browne, includes correspondence, notebooks, a scrapbook, pencil sketches, manuscript poems, and some published writings in Modern Language Notes, The Nation, and Sewanee Review. Numerous newspaper clippings are also included. In addition, there is an album of poetry and other writings by Browne's friend, John Banister Tabb.
