The project was overseen by Francois Furstenberg when he was a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University. Benedict Arnold (1741 – 1801) was a general during the American Revolutionary War, who fought for the American Continental Army, and later defected to the British Army. The collection consists of a forgery of a note from Arnold ([1780]) as well as later correspondence debating its authenticity from 1942 and 1951.
