Biographical / Historical
Members of the Garrett family collected autographs in the form of signed letters, documents, and manuscripts in order to record and preserve early American history.
Scope and Contents
Many of the letters in this collection are from prominent political figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Herbert Hoover. Letters to or from Garrett family members have been included because of the important historical value of the other correspondent. The collection dates from 1642 to 1943.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged alphabetically by autograph. A folder of unidentified letters is at the beginning of the collection. Oversized materials are housed separately.
