World War posters and flyers

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: MS-GAR-051

Scope and Contents

This collection contains one box of posters and flyers created during the first and second World Wars. The majority of the items were published during World War II, including posters and flyers published by the United States government promoting war-savings stamps, war bonds, and food rationing. One poster was designed by Ted Jung and published by the War Food Administration: "For work, for play, 3 'squares' a day: eat the Basic 7 way." There is also a set of posters published by the Saturday Evening Post with poems by Joseph Auslander: "An Open Letter to the Unconquerable Dutch," "An Open Letter to the Unconquerable Norwegians," and "An Open Letter to the Unconquerable Poles." Each poem is set against a painting. The collection contains two copies of a poster which reads "Poland: First to Fight." There is one charcoal illustration in the collection of a World War I soldier and a young child dated 1917.
