Copied from dealer description, a transcription of its contents: "Narcissus Luttrell, 17 September 1724, MS Memorandum on Purchasing News & Print in His Absence; Memorands Left with servants Nan Bird & Mary Stevenson at Chelsea on [this instant?] 17 September 1724

1. Take care of the house, fire & candle & shut up all the doors & windows every night before tis dark, & Be not out after, & you may bolt the doors in the day time . 2. Take a note of the names of any persons & their business that come to speak with us & give me an account Thereof in a letter by the post, either upon [the hour?] or a [over?] night, & you may enclose any single letter, especially if you know it requires speedily an answer. 3. Keep an account of what you lay our every day, & set down the days, & also an account how much every day Phil Herb[er]t & attend in the garden, & pay them according to that on every [hour?], but keep this account in a distinct paper. [4.] Be very careful of letting strangers into the house on any pretense whatsoever. 54) 5. If any thing extraordinary happens, send word thereof immediately. 6. Let with you 12. Guineas when I went towards housekeeping & if you want any more, give me notice & l will Order accordingly. 7. As the news comes in every day, examine it by the paper to see you have all come in that should, & if she brings it not, compel her to bring it the next day. 8. Be sure that the news be black & clear printed with a broad margin on the inner side. 9. Mr. Valentine writes to me every post night, so you may sent a not to him every day to put into his letter, if any thing happens. 10. Let old Mary get all the Catalogues of Books, Pictures, &c. which you see in the printed papers & send her for them to the place of sale on that very morning the auction begins, & if any money is to be paid for them, Of she goeth to Mr. Worrall, he will get them gratis."
