Biographical / Historical

VIBES is a monthly concert series created by students of the Peabody Computer Music Department that began in September 2018.

In 2019-2020, with the support of a Johns Hopkins University Dean's Incentive Grant, VIBES hosted a collaborative concert project with the Peabody Conservatory Dance Department and staged performances during the 2020 Peabody Hackathon, "Hacking Harmony 2.0."

Concert production was managed by Erik Fredriksen (2018-2019) and Zijun Wang (2019-2020).

From the organization's website: "Every VIBES event is a unique experience with its own atmosphere and intention, carefully curated by the student staff around a theme. Each theme helps those involved shape that concert's identity. Suggested materials are provided to prospective composers as an optional impetus for unique exercises in composition. Every concert has its own host, designated as its concertmaster, who contributes to that performance's suggested materials, programming and presentation.

"The VIBES student staff aims to provide professionally run, artistically engaging and mentally engrossing events with high fidelity documentation to celebrate the unique artistry of the Peabody Computer Music department. All Peabody students are encouraged to submit their work, and are further encouraged to collaborate with their peers. Every event will have a following reception for the audience, composers and performers to encourage discussion and continue to build a community of Peabody electroacoustic composers."
