Johns Hopkins University Russian postcards collection

 Collection
Identifier: MS-0690

Scope and Contents

This is an artifically assembled collection of Russian-made postcards, with materials selected by the curators of Special Collections. Most of the postcards include full-color illustrations, predominantly of Russian folk tale scenes, traditional dress, or a reproduction of artwork from the era. A large number of the cards were published or sold by the Russian Society of the Red Cross (also known as the Russian Red Cross Society and similar variations), as the insignia of the organization is printed on them. Many others were also likely published by the Rishar Publishing Company.

The postcards date from approximately 1900 to the 1930s. Some information on the individual cards, titles, and original artists is available offline.
