Biographical / Historical

Lorrain Sherman (L.S.) Hulburt was born in Albany, Wisconsin in 1858, and obtained his PhD in mathematics from Johns Hopkins University in 1894. He taught mathematics at the school from 1892-1928, in addition to teaching at other colleges such as Columbia and Harvard Universities.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was donated by G.V. Stelzenmuller III, whose father owned this textbook when he was a student at an Alabama university in the 1930s. Notes on the verso of the cover suggest that this book may have been previously owned by A.P. Bloom and Eugene E. Reasy (Veasey?), both likely students of Johns Hopkins University.
