Biographical / Historical

Professor Larzer Ziff, a native of Massachusetts, attended Middlebury College and the University of Chicago, receiving his Masters and PhD from the latter in 1951 and 1955, respectively. After teaching at various institutions early in his career, Ziff became the Caroline Donovan Professor of English at Johns Hopkins University in 1981. He served as chair of the Department of English from 1991 to 1995. He is primarily known for his expertise in the history of literary America.

The papers have been left in the Ziff's original organization and the folder labels reflect the original labeling by the donor.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Part of the collection is known to have been donated by the creator, Larzer Ziff, in January 1999.

Accruals

Box 1-5 are part of Accession 1998-99.MS.016. Box 6-8 are part of a later accrual, Accession 2013-14.MS.003.
