Scope and Contents
The collection includes Anne Tyler's personally inscribed self-portrait as well as a signed copy of a colophon (publisher's emblem or imprint) page. A typed note from 1996 explains why Anne Tyler gave up graphic art. The remaining items are a primarily typewritten letters, particularly to Stuart Wright of Palaemon Press Limited, and a typed draft of her essay "Miss Cone, Miss Cone, Thank You, Thank You." Correspondents she wrote to also include: William Plumley, Jeff Schaire, and Isolde McNicholl. Most items are signed by Anne Tyler. The collection spans from 1980 to 1985, and 1996 to 1998.

Biographical / Historical
Anne Tyler, American novelist and short-story writer, was born in 1941 in Minneapolis. Among her best-known books are: The Accidental Tourist (1985), which was made into a successful film, and the Pulitzer Prize winner Breathing Lessons (1988). By the age of seven Anne had started to write stories and, at the age of 19, she graduated from Duke University. As a writer, Tyler made her debut with If Morning Ever Comes (1964). She moved to Baltimore in the 1960s and has based many of her works in Baltimore.
