Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence with Margery Harriss and gives a glimpse of life in Baltimore; mostly during the 1940’s and 1950’s. Included is a small collection of correspondence with her husband, R. P. Harriss.

The correspondence is arranged into two series. Series one consists of letters written to Margery Harriss. The correspondents are filed in alphabetical order. In some cases, the full name of the correspondent was not given. These letters are filed in alphabetical order following the identified authors. One file of outgoing correspondence is included at the end of the series. Series two contains letters written to R. P. Harriss, letters written jointly to Mr. and Mrs. Harriss, and letters written to their daughter, Clarinda.

Biographical Note

"Margery Willis was born and raised near Hollins Market in Southwest Baltimore. After graduating from Forest Park High School in 1925, she attended the State Normal School in Towson from which she earned her teacher's certificate and a bachelor's degree in education. She earned a master's degree in education from the Johns Hopkins University in 1951."
