Seventeenth Century Maryland: A Bibliography was published in 1949. The volume was compiled by Elizabeth Baer, librarian at the John Work Garrett Library. Baer completed the work, originally planned by John Work Garrett (1872-1942). Mr. Garrett. a noted bibliophile, retired from the diplomatic service in 1933 and concentrated on collecting books, maps, and broadsides relating to Maryland, printed in the seventeenth century. The published bibliography includes titles in the Garrett Library as well as copies in other American and European libraries.

Existence and Location of Copies
Available in published work: Baer, Elizabeth. "Seventeenth century Maryland: A Bibliography." Baltimore. Johns Work Garrett Library, 1949.
Finding aid prepared by Joan Grattan in July 1990. When the collection was received in the Manuscripts Department, the photographs and photostats were separated chronologically into yearly segments, 1612-1700. There were two exceptions: one for works by Peter Heylyn and one for works by Thomas Bray, D.D. Each segment was given a letter designation, and the items were filed in an alphabetized binder. This arrangement varies slightly from the published plates which were numbered consecutively 1 to 209. The items have been removed from the binder, but the chronological arrangement has been retained. The items are stored in one document box
