Content Description

These photos were purchased along with a first edition copy of Nan Goldin's The Other Side, which depicted the lives of her queer friends, who frequented a Boston drag bar called The Other Side. The seller described these photos as "additional photos of subjects" from the book. Almost all photos are of Marlene Vanni, although Colette and Bobby are also named in the captions. Some or all of the photos were sent to Bobby, as Marlene signed several photos to him and he appears in a couple others with captions suggesting that he wrote them. The processor believes that Bobby's surname is Vanni, based on a signature on the back of one photo that reads "Love Bobby Vanni."

The collection contains 72 photos. Many are not original photographic prints. The photographers are almost all unknown, and it is unknown whether Nan Goldin took any of these photographs. The collection also includes a modeling headshot for Marlene, from Bianca Models and Talent in Boston, as well as an advertisement from 1995 that Marlene modeled for.
