Mary C. Gould friendship album

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: MS-1015

Content Description

This friendship album belonged to Mary C. Gould of Baltimore. Inside are poems and other messages from Gould's family and friends, the bulk of which are from P. Roman Steck, whom she later married in 1846. Two of Steck's messages to Mary are encoded, and one poem dated January 1842 seems to indicate that the two would soon be married, although their wedding would not occur until May 1846. Some pages include hand-colored engravings. The album also includes loose newspaper clippings of poetry and a floral needlepoint design that reads "Love."
