 Collection
Identifier: MS-0984

Content Description

A collection of inauthentic bookplates collected by Thomas G. Boss. Contents include restrikes (i.e., unauthorized reprints from the original printing plates), reprints, tributes, and reproductions. The original bookplates date from the 14th Century to the 21st century; as these are forgeries and reproductions, all are undated, although some appear to be from the 18th or 19th century. A small amount of additional information in the form of clippings, newsletters, and pamphlets on historical bookplates is included with this collection.

Abstract

A collection of inauthentic bookplates. Contents include restrikes, reprints, tributes, and reproductions.

Arrangement

Bookplates have been arranged alphabetically by name on bookplate, except in a few cases where the artist was known but no name is associated with the bookplate or Boss had grouped together a set of bookplates that were designed by a single artist or produced in a single artist's style; in these cases, the bookplate is alphabetized under the artist's name. Three folders, which were arranged by Boss, contain various categories of inauthentic George Washington bookplates.
