This collection contains approximately 110 songs published by John Cole, one of the earliest sheet music publishers in Baltimore. The songs are organized in ascending order of engraving plate number, beginning with John Cole & Son and followed by John Cole. The collection also contains catalogues of sheet music from Carbonell's collecting career.

Publisher and contributor (composer, lyricist, arranger, etc.) names are listed as printed.

Biographical / Historical

John Cole (1774-1855) was an American composer and publisher. He was born in England and moved to the United States in 1785, settling in Baltimore. Cole published hundreds of songs and collections, ranging from classical and popular to sacred music. He also composed many of the works he published. (From Oxford Music Online)

John Carbonell is a sheet music collector and contemporary of Lester Levy. His collections are particularly strong in music published in Baltimore.
