Content Description

Derived from dealer description: a handmade book of poetry accompanied with watercolor illustrations created in 1927. The journal was created by Lucile West, and on the title page she wrote, “Copyrighted 1927, illustrations by C.S. West, printed by Lucile West.” The poems within the album are a sampling of the more popular poets of the time, such as Emily Dickinson and William Herbert Carruth. There are twenty-three watercolors, ranging from full-page illustrations to quarter-page illustrations. The watercolors are of brightly colored landscapes, including mountain and ocean views. The book is made of brown paper covers on which the title “Poetry” has been painted, along with an image of a forest. The book measures 9.5 x 7 inches.
