Scope and Contents
The Johns Hopkins University collection of Maryland African American history and culture is an artificially assembled collection which spans from the 18th to the 20th century. The collection includes personal and organizational materials, photographs, scrapbooks, and documents from institutions such as the St. James A.M.E. Church and Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore. The collection also includes records related to the history of slavery in Maryland from 1788 to 1860, primarily in Frederick County.
