This eleven item collection contains materials produced by The Jargon Society from 1951 to 1986. Ten items are promotional pamphlets and brochures advertising new and forthcoming publications, yearly book listings, and events sponsored by the society. One brochure is a color printed booklet with a color photograph of Jargon Society staff. The final item is a first edition foldable poster (1974) with the poem “Who is Little Ennis?” signed by the author and press founder, Jonathan Williams.

The Jargon Society historical note

The Jargon Society was an independent publishing house in North Carolina founded by the American poet Jonathan Williams (1929-2008). The press began in 1951 and operates today under Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center. Under Williams’ tenure The Jargon Society was known for publishing American avant-garde poetry, fiction, and photography from lesser known authors. The press has published over 115 titles.
