Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of a marine insurance policy for wheat on a Dutch (?) ship, the Candidus, voyaging from America [Baltimore] to Lisbon. The policy was issued on January 28, 1789.

The underwriters' names include John Julius Angerstein, John Whitmore, a member of the first governing committee, and Capel Cure. In 1793 the ship is recorded as carrying "Delph ware" from Amsterdam to Baltimore.
