Collection consists of biographical material, speeches (1967-1971), and clippings describing Lincoln Gordon's appointment as president of The Johns Hopkins University. Of interest is a report on economic development in Brazil prepared during Lincoln's service as U.S. ambassador to that country in 1963. The report is in Portuguese.

Biographical Note

Abraham Lincoln Gordon (1913–2009) was the 9th President of the Johns Hopkins University (1967–1971) and a United States Ambassador to Brazil (1961–1966). He was born in New York City, September 10, 1913. After graduating from Harvard in 1933, he studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and recieved the Ph.D. in 1936. He returned to the U.S. to begin his teaching career at Harvard. He served on several government boards and was a consultant with the Department of State and Defense. In September 1961 he was appointed Ambassador to Brazil and in March of 1966, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs. Lincoln Gordon resumed a career in business after resigning his position at Johns Hopkins.
