The collection spans the years 1899-1935 and consists largely of Prefessor Keidel's lectures and writings on romance paleography. Some material is in French. Of interest are his stories of European libraries, bibliographies of French fable manuscripts, and research on early Maryland newspapers.

Biographical Note

George Charles Keidel was associate professor of Romance Languages at Johns Hopkins University and was later a librarian at the Library of Congress. Keidel received the Ph.D. from Hopkins in 1895 and remained to teach French language and literature until 1911. Among his published works are "An Old French Prose Version of La Vie de St. Alexis" (1896) and "History of French Fable Manuscripts" (1909). George Charles Keidel died in 1942.
