Literary rebus set
Rewritten from dealer description:
This item is a set of rebuses made from collages of image cutouts pasted onto cards, created approximately in the 1910s. A rebus is a puzzle in which words are represented by a set pictures or letters. The pictorials provide clues to words, the sounds of words, or parts thereof, with the solutions in these cases generally being titles of famous books. The rebus cards measure 19 x 17 cm. The versos of the cards have numbers which correspond to an answer key. The solutions are contained on a folded sheet kept in a small envelope with an image of a key drawn on its back. This envelope is mounted onto the back of the box lid which houses the cards. The box measures 24 x 19 cm, and is 4 cm deep. The box includes a ribbon to help lift the cards.
