Scope and Contents

A fifty-five page newsletter circa 1976, titled "Gay U.S.A '76," that was likely circulated at San Francisco's Gay Freedom Celebration. The newsletter contains reports from gay community leaders of several cities including Anchorage, Denver, and Los Angeles, an article on creating and incorporating a city in California founded by people who identify as gay, a map of the United States with labels including "Land of Our Lady of Repressions" and "Land of the Backslidden," and over one hundred and twenty-five advertisements for gay bars,services, and other gay-friendly businesses, primarily from California. The newsletter is illustrated throughout with drawings and photographs.
