Broadside featuring Alice Walker excerpt and letter, 1988
Scope and Contents
Broadside measuring 22 x 36 cm titled “From Alice Walker,” created in 1988. It features an excerpt and letter written by Alice Walker during the 1970s from her book Living by the Word: Selected Writings 1973-1987. The excerpt explains that the letter follows up on a letter she'd previously written to "an imaginary young black woman, giving her some sense of my own experiences and telling her things she might need to know." The broadside includes a note at the bottom that it was created as a gift “from Black Oak Books, Berkeley, to honor the occasion of a reading by Alice Walker in 1988.” In the background of the text is an illustration of a woman.
