Abstract

Elisabeth Gilman was born in New Haven, Connecticut, December 25, 1867. She was the younger daughter of Daniel Coit and Mary (Ketcham) Gilman. Her father was a college professor and the first president of The Johns Hopkins University. The papers consist of correspondence, speeches, writings, diaries, newspaper clippings, printed material, memorabilia, and photographs.

Abstract

Joseph Sweetman Ames became Director of the Physical Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University in 1901. He taught until becoming provost of the University in 1926 and president from 1929 to 1935. This collection largely consists of speeches and lectures given at Johns Hopkins, but also includes correspondence, photographs, reprints, and biographical information.
