Abstract

José Robles Pazos was an Associate Professor of Spanish at Johns Hopkins University born in 1897 and shot as a traitor by the Spanish Republican Government in February of 1937. The collection spans the years 1929-1940 and consists of correspondence regarding Robles' arrest, a contract for the Spanish translation of 13 books by H.L. Mencken, and two life insurance policies.

Abstract

Henry Carrington Lancaster, a scholar and educator in the fields of French literature and history, was born in 1883 in Richmond, Virginia. The collection spans the years 1913-1954 and includes correspondence, a scrapbook, research notes outlining and analyzing the plays of 17th and 18th century French dramatists and the repertoire of the Comedie Francaise, drafts and typescripts, and galley proofs. A large part of the collection is in French.

Scope and Contents The collection (1629-1700) consists of photostats of 28 French plays written or performed in the seventeenth century. The plays are in French and were aquired from libraries in France by Henry Carrington Lancaster, Johns Hopkins professor of French literature, while he was researching and writing A History of French Dramatic Literature in the Seventeenth Century. In the published volumes, Dr. Lancaster notes the locations and the manuscript numbers of the original manuscripts. One other item...
