Abstract
The informal group that would become the Student Committee for Academic Freedom was founded by a group of Hopkins graduate students in 1952, and lasted until 1955.The Committee was motivated primarily by the perceived threat to free research and free discussion posed by Congressional investigations into "un-American activities."
