Antonio Magliabechi letter

Abstract

The collection consists of one hand-written letter of Florentine bibliophile, Antonio Magliabechi. The letter is written in Italian and bound into a volume along with a typescript English translation. Also in the volume is a copy of D'Israeli's biographical description of Magliabecchi from Curiosities of Literature. The letter was written August 24, 1697 to author, Giovanni Giustino Ciampini (1633-1698).

This Commonplace book is a handwritten, bound manuscript of the late seventeenth century written in English. Subjects in the Commonplace book include asking advice and counseling, battles, boasting, how to make a conquest of another country, fear, the way to procure friends, and how to deal with a vanquished enemy.

Sir Thomas Overbury manuscript

Abstract

The collection consists of one bound handwritten manuscript written in 1616. The author is unknown. There is a dedication "from a poor country man" to Sir Thomas Bromley, possibly the English judge (1530-1587) who presided over the trial (1586) of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Abstract The formation of the Tudor and Stuart Club was initiated by Sir William Osler and his wife, Lady Grace Osler. Their intention to provide an endowment for these activities was expressed in a letter to Johns Hopkins University President Frank J. Goodnow, dated October 30, 1918. Their endowment provided not only interest bearing securities for the book purchasing and other operations of the Club, it also contributed to their son Edward Revere Osler's personal book collection, about 800 volumes,...
