This collection consists of a copy of a diary (1861-1865) of Lucy Rebecca Buck written during the American Civil War. In 1973, the diary was published under the title of Sad Earth, Sweet Heaven. Lucy Rebecca Buck was born in 1842 and resided near Front Royal, Virginia.

Ludwig Edelstein (1902-1965) was a professor of Classics at Johns Hopkins University. Collection consists of reprints of published articles spanning 1931-1955, many of which include his annotations in German script.

The collection consists of a folder of ephemera and a small commonplace book, which appears to have been a gift to Mary C. Calwell from Annie Wetherall dating from 1833-1850. It contains various poems and notes written by friends and family. The ephemera are primarily religious in nature.

The Maryland Mutual Insurance Company was located in Baltimore and dealt in marine insurance. The company was chartered in 1858 and operated from about 1860 until 1877. This collection includes records of both the Maryland Mutual Insurance Company and the Baltimore Marine Insurance Company, and consists of administrative and financial records. Materials in the collection span 1858 to 1879.

John Simmons Barth (born 1930) is an American writer, best known for his postmodernist and metafictional fiction. This collection is formed by two printed items dating from 1973 and 1980.

Maurice Bessman is an emeritus professor of biochemistry and enzymology in the Department of Biology at Johns Hopkins University. This collection consists of workbooks, lecture notes, slides, transparencies, research notes, manuscripts, exams, conference papers and journal articles, photographs, and correspondence. These materials span 1956 to 2007.

McKendree Llewellyn Raney was Librarian of the Johns Hopkins University, 1908-1927. Collection consists largely of typescripts of poems by Carl Sandburg with inscriptions by the poet. Materials range in date from 1929 to 1954.

The Merryman-Crane family papers document the nineteenth century life of two families of enslavers related by marriage, one centered in Richmond, Virginia, and the other in Baltimore County, Maryland. The Merryman family papers consist of land deeds, legal documents, and correspondence spanning 1742-1908 The Crane Family papers consist of correspondence, poetry, prose, and financial documents. The material spans 1821-1908 but mainly dates from 1850-1890.

Minnie Gresham Machen (1849-1931) was a writer of religious literature in Baltimore, MD. The collection consists of a volume with entries dated 1874-1904 with relatively few entries. The writings in the notebook deal largely with religious subjects, but there are references to Sidney Lanier.

The collection (1897-1943) consists of three scrapbooks, the subjects of which are the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln and Edgar Allan Poe. The scrapbooks were compiled by Cassandra Moncure Lyne (born 1875) in collaboration with her mother, also named Cassandra Moncure Lyne (1845-1934).

Nathan Bryllion Fagin taught at Johns Hopkins in the early 20th century. The collection consists of correspondence with Fagin's literary friends and colleagues; materials relating to the Moscow Theatre Festival of 1932; papers and course outlines from his teaching career at Johns Hopkins University dating from 1925 to 1951.

Neil Albert Grauer (born 1947) was a journalist and editorial cartoonist. The collection of Neil A. Grauer consists of memorabilia ranging in date from 1966 to 2016 the features the Blue Jay logo designed by Grauer for the use of athletic teams at The Johns Hopkins University.

The collection spans the years between 1852 and 1936, and include 17 letters from Oliver Wendell Holmes; 2 letters to him; recollections of him; recitation questions by him; 3 printed poems; 1 manuscript poem; news clippings; 4 photographs.

Orator Fuller Cook, Jr., was an agriculturist born in 1867 in Clyde, New York. The collection consists primarily of writings on various aspects of cotton production dating from 1921-1946.

Paul Haupt (1858-1926) was a philologist and a professor of Semitic Languages at Johns Hopkins University. The collection consists of correspondence and research for an expedition in search of Assyrian and Babylonian antiquities from 1884 to 1888; 4 notebooks from Haupt’s graduate studies at Leipzig from 1877 to 1879; and 1 volume, "Notes from the Oriental Seminary," edited and annotated by Haupt.

Philip D. Curtin (1922-2009) was a historian and author. The collection of author and historian, Philip D. Curtin, consists of materials related to his teaching and writing career dating from 1955 to 1993.

R. Robinson Baker (Ralph Robinson) (born 1928) was a surgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The collection contains material from courses from 1948 to 1950, taken by him while he was a student at Hopkins and a member of ROTC.

Richard Harding Davis was an American journalist, war correspondent, and novelist. The collection consists of autograph letters and manuscript fragments of well-known literary figures of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the items were exhibited at the World's Fair in 1893.

Jack Kerouac (1922–1969) was an American novelist and poet of French-Canadian descent. This collection consists of a poster, a publication annoucement, a bibliographic checklist, and a photograh of a painting. The items date from 1975, and roughly 1981-1991.

This collection consists of reel-to-reel tapes of archival broadcast footage, copies of audio packages created by Richard Lidz as part of his business of producing cassette tapes relating to various aspects of United States history.
