The collection consists of a Civil War diary of Louisa Hoffman, of Baltimore, Maryland, dated 1860-1862. 137 manuscript pages, in ink, in a legible hand, with about a dozen newspaper clippings on the Civil War.

Biographical Note

Louisa Hoffman, daughter of Amuel Owings Hoffman and Louisa A. Gilmore, was born in Baltimore about 1831 and died on 4 January 1884. She was married around 1865 to Alexander Riach/Riech, of Scotland.
