Scope and Contents

The collection contains typescripts of three of Henry Miller's works: "Books in My Life," "Big Sur," and "The Oranges of Hieronymous Bosch," a photocopy of a transcript of Henry Miller's deposition, and a typed letter from Harvery M. Grossman to Henry Miller. "Books in My Life" contains approximately 350 leaves, and is a combination of typescript, typescript carbon, and printed leaves, many of which are annotated by Miller.

Henry Valentine Miller (December 26, 1891 – June 7, 1980) was an American writer. He was known for breaking with existing literary forms, developing a new sort of semi-autobiographical novel that blended character study, social criticism, philosophical reflection, explicit language, sex, surrealist free association and mysticism.
