This wooden artifact is a tablet memorializing the ancestors of the Hong family. It is believed to have belonged to Frances Wu, of Huangmei in Central China.

Biographical / Historical
Chinese ancestral tablets memorialize the ancestors of a particular family. They are traditionally placed within ancestral halls and temples, as well as household shrines, for use in rituals to commemorate and venerate the spirits of the family's deceased ancestors.
