Content Description

This collection contains 72 Polaroid photographs of prisoners spending time with family and friends during visitation day. We believe all photographs are from California prisons, possibly all from California Men's Colony. Most are unidentified and undated, but a few are dated between 1983 and 1997. The photos have been arranged, as best as can be discerned, according to family group. The last three pages of the album are unorganized.

Of the identified photos, three from 1988 feature Charlene and Eric Woods. One of the photos of Charlene and Eric also shows two people identified as Sqwie[?] and Paulett. Another photograph shows two women, one a Black woman and the other an older white woman, labeled only as "chillin with Ms. B." 21 photos show an unidentified interracial couple, including three photos of the couple's wedding within the prison facility.

Biographical / Historical

No information is known on the photographer or the individuals photographed. Some of the photographs were taken at California Men's Colony, a state prison for male inmates near the city of San Luis Obispo, CA. We believe all photographs were taken in California prisons.
