Derived from the dealer description: This collection consists of eight volumes in assorted leather and cloth bindings containing the minute meetings, accounts, and membership information for the Druid Hill Permanent Building and Saving Association of Baltimore City. The books were primarily maintained by the organization’s two secretaries: Frederick A. Kranz (1848-1918), a merchant and David S. Kahn (1863-1933), an accountant. Until May 5, 1885, the organization’s minutes were maintained in German and afterwards in English. The weekly minutes contain a plethora of information regarding the economic status and success of the organization and its membership, its financial expansion and permanent physical move, weekly accounts of collected dues, paid dividends, and interests and loans taken from other local banks as well as loans made on properties and mortgages held. Other topics included the admission and withdrawal of named members, resolutions made and passed upon the decease of officers, and the printing of the organization’s constitution in 1890. The volumes also contain inserted ephemera including a circular dated April 4, 1903 announcing the purchase of a permanent home for the organization. The books vary in size and page length, but in general measure approximately 9 x 14 inches each.
