Biographical / Historical

The first issue of the Hopkins Standard was published on September 3, 1993. The publication described itself as “an independent publication, designed as a pre-journalism program” and was published by Standard Journalism, Inc., a non-profit corporation established by the founding student editors. It began as a weekly publication, later moving to a monthly format. Beginning with the September 1995 issue, the publication is issued under the title of the Charles Street Standard. In that issue, it notes that “The Charles Street Standard is an independent publication, formerly known as the Hopkins Standard, produced and published by students in northern Baltimore City and southern Baltimore County.” Copies were distributed on the campuses of Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Goucher College, and Towson State University, as well as around Baltimore.
