Series 4, Student Records, is divided into two subseries. Subseries 1, Ph.D. Students, contains records of students who received their Ph.D.s from the department during the years 1948 to 1989. These records, arranged alphabetically by name and chronologically within each folder, consist of evaluations, correspondence, transcripts and some writing samples. This entire series is restricted under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Subseries 2, Special/Master of Arts/Withdrawn Students, spans the period 1945 to 1989 and consists of records of graduate students who did not meet the requirements for a Ph.D., either because they withdrew from the department or because they were admitted as special students rather than as Ph.D. candidates. Like Subseries 1, these records contain evaluations, correspondence, transcripts and some written work and are arranged alphabetically by name and chronologically within each folder. This entire series is restricted under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Conditions Governing Access
