Series 3: Business Records, 1938-1972
Scope and Contents note
In Box 3 is Series 3: Business Records. Most of the financial material is separated chronologically. A few dated records are specific to a particular project. Miss Lincoln enjoyed a fairly long and successful writing career. She wrote consistently and was published regularly. In contract negotiations, she was represented by Harold Ober Associates of New York city. Between 1966 and 1972, Artur Fields acted as her literary agent.
In Series 3 are contracts, invoices, correspondence, some reviews of her work, and accountings of royalties. The Business Records correspond with many of the published pieces filed in Series 4: Writings. Business records for 1954 indicate that Vogue paid Miss Lincoln $400.00 each for "Confessions of Faith" and "Coping (happily) with Discipline." Harold Ober Associates was paid a 10% commission. Her work was also published outside the United States and contracts with European publishers are contained in Series 3. Hughes Massie & Co. represented Miss Lincoln when Celia Amberly was published by Rowohlt Verlag in Hamburg, 1954.
