Series 3: Writings and research, 1957-1975
Scope and Contents note
The majority of this series deals with Sandler's journalism. There are copies of the articles she wrote for the "Daily American" (1957-65, 1975) and the "New York Times" (1963-1970). Titles of the "New York Times" articles are in the Container List and copies of submitted articles can be found in Series 2.
Sandler wrote infrequently for several Italian travel magazines and copies of the Pan American Airlines' "Clipperwise" (1961-62), "Italviews" (1963- 1964), the "Hilton Italy Magazine" (1963-64), and "Orbit" (1969) are in this series. Titles of the articles in these magazines are in the Container List.
The earliest article in this series appeared in Screen Romances in 1940. "If I Had My Way" was a short story adaptation of the Universal Film and was done at the time Sandler was engaged in motion picture promotion work. Another public relations project was for the re-opening of the Casina Valadier a well-known restaurant in Rome. Research material and a copy of her History of the Casina Valadier are in this series. Sandler was for a short time the editor of the Johns Hopkins University Bologna Center's "The American Review." There is some material (1959-61) on this. There are a few pieces of fiction in this series. An undated story "Holiday in Tuscany" was rejected by the Yale Review. There is a fragment of a story about a graduate student named Scott and a poem "In a Ward for the Elderly in a VA Hospital."
